The Clay-colored Thrush’s range just reaches the United States, in southernmost Texas, but elsewhere it ranges south through eastern Mexico and over much of Middle America to northwest South America, in Colombia.

Like a number of other Neotropical thrushes, it is not a very prepossessing bird, being mainly dull brown over the upperparts. The Cocoa Thrush is found from the Lesser Antilles and eastern Colombia south to central Brazil and eastern Bolivia; there also is a disjunct population in eastern Brazil.

The Cocoa Thrush is brown above, pale orange below and has a dark streaked buffy throat. These thrushes consume fruit, and also forage on the ground for invertebrates.

Naturally, neotropical forest biologists will find a lot of familiar as well as new information in here, but they should recognize that the book is a landmark and should read it. The key lies in the way the information has been drawn together and presented, such that it provides some very clear signposts to the issues that remain to be tackled.
